22-year-old motorcycle racer dies after being knocked down by 'a load of vigilantes chasing a stolen vehicle'
After being knocked down by a carload of vigilantes who were apparently chasing a stolen car, a young motorbike rider died.
When she was thrown off her bike on Ross River Road in Townsville just before 10 pm on Friday, Jennifer Board, 22, had just finished a group ride with colleagues.
Unfortunately, the fitness enthusiast, who is described as "kind, bubbly and adventurous," died on the scene.
Riding was Jennifer's new hobby, she got her learners' bike license in October last year, and in December she celebrated switching to her limited license.
She proudly shared on Instagram photos of her orange Kawasaki Ninja, sharing with her friends and family her adventures.
The death of Jennifer left friends and family heartbroken, filling social networks with tributes.
"You'll be dearly missed, rest easy Jen," one woman wrote.
"Speechlessness. Every day, they miss saying hello. Thoughts are with your friends and family," another wrote.
"We love you Jen," wrote another.
Hundreds gathered to pay tribute to the vivacious young woman at the scene of the accident on Saturday.
For the occasion, many dressed in orange because it was Jennifer's favorite colour.
According to the police, when it reportedly clipped the back of the Hyundai and spun out of control, a Holden Statesman packed with a group of vigilantes was "aggressively" chasing a stolen Hyundai i30.
Before reaching Jennifer, the vehicle then crossed to the wrong side of the lane.
The stolen car fled the scene and there are still the suspected robbers on the run.
The three Holden Statesman occupants are being questioned about the incident by police.
