Verphy Kudi, a British teen mother, partied for six days when her one-year-old daughter Asiah died in a Brighton facility.
A teen mother in the United Kingdom pleaded guilty to leaving her one-year-old daughter alone while out partying for her birthday.
According to Sussex Police, Verphy Kudi, 19, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of her daughter Asiah in Brighton on Friday.
According to local newspaper The Argus, Kudi left her flat on December 5, 2019 and attended parties in London, Coventry, and Solihull over the course of six days to celebrate her 18th birthday.
Asiah remained at home during this period.
Kudi returned to the house on December 11 and called 911 after learning her baby was unresponsive.
Asiah was taken to the hospital, but died shortly after arriving.
The little girl had caught influenza, and post-mortem reports revealed that she died as a result of negligence, according to the Lewes Crown Court.
The situation has been "especially distressing" for police officers, according to Detective Chief Inspector Andy Wolstenholme.
He said, "This was a particularly distressing case for my team and me to investigate, and it has caused great sorrow among Verphy's family and the many agencies that have helped Verphy and Asiah."
“We take note of the guilty plea in this case.”
In May, Kudi will be convicted. She is now being kept in detention.
The teen mother and her daughter were living in public housing and didn't have a fixed address.
According to the BBC, a spokesperson for Brighton and Hove City Council said, "Asiah was not on a child protection plan and was not associated with social work programs when she died."
