Suspect Sought After Shooting at Maine Mall in South Portland: Investigation Ongoing
Police in South Portland are on the lookout for a suspect following a shooting at the Maine Mall on Wednesday afternoon. The incident, which happened just before 4 p.m., led to the mall being locked down.
One person was injured, suffering a gunshot wound to the leg, and was rushed to Maine Medical Center. Surveillance footage shows the suspect, dressed in a pink-lined jacket and carrying a shoulder bag, leaving the mall through the food court. Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen anything or knows the suspect’s whereabouts to call 911 immediately, advising the public not to approach the individual.
Local police, with help from Maine State Police and federal agencies including the FBI, quickly searched the area. Initially, the situation was treated as an active shooter incident, but authorities later confirmed it was a personal dispute between two individuals. Police Chief Dan Ahern mentioned that by the time officers arrived, the suspect had already left the scene.

I thank State and local law enforcement for their quick response. I advise everyone to follow law enforcement instructions and stay away from the area until further notice,” she stated.
As the investigation moves forward, police are continuing to review security footage and are asking the public to come forward with any information on the suspect. Anyone with details is urged to contact Detective Lt. Christopher Todd at 207-799-5511 Ext. 7448 or submit an anonymous tip at 207-347-4100.
