Shane Huici has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 90-year-old resident of a nursing home.
An accused nursing home rape victim in her 90s bravely raised the alarm, authorities say.
A man has been charged with raping a 90-year-old nursing home patient in her bed.
A 23-year-old male from St Albans Park has allegedly managed to break into Tannoch Brae Aged Care around 4.45am on Sunday, according to the police.
Assault and Battery Squad Investigator Mark Burnett said the woman awoke to find that the man was sexually assaulting her in the Geelong elderly care facility before she bravely fought back.
A staff member at the Aldershot Road facility came to her rescue, according to Mr. Smith, and scared the accused attacker away.
After a Sunday manhunt that included the dog squad and a public appeal, he was apprehended just after 9am on Monday.
It was alleged that the man had committed crimes such as aggravated burglary, recklessly inflicting serious bodily harm and stealing.
In the early hours of Monday night, he was remanded in custody and will appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on November 5.
An injured woman was being treated by medical professionals, according to Inspector Burnett.
It's clear she understands what happened and is a fighter, he said.
In one instance, she was able to use her personal distress alarm.
Because of this, nursing personnel have been called in to assist and scare away the accused assailant
"This is a harrowing experience. Our society's most vulnerable female has supposedly been attacked in her own house."
