Good: After a sleepless night, Flynn wakes to six band sixes
In 2020, high school students were advised to expect something and to endure their deceit. However the night before HSC results were published it could not curb Flynn Broom's chitters.
"This week I was a little edgy," said a student of Blacktown's Patrician Brothers College. "It just hit me this week the results came."
Flynn mostly had hoped for band 6, and the peculiar band 5. "I probably did not have one test, so it should all be good," he said I wasn't sure about it.
At 6 a.m. on Friday, about 66 000 students got their certificate online or via text message, his unrestful thoughts were made secure. A spectrum of emotions scattered across his face in a matter of seconds.

Before she left China for a pathology PhD in Japan, Ying had completed an MA in education from her husband, Xiao Li.
After 21 years of research, Ying realized that she had lost trust in social contact during her long years.
Since She and Her Husband were unable to speak English when they came to Australia in 2006, they inspired Akina to follow wider art and music interests from a young age to find a better balance.
"I wanted her to find a hobby to deal with a group of people. It's extremely significant," said Ying. Akina plays drums and piano, and has also been involved in chess, debate at school, dance and literature reading.
The youngest of her three children at the education milestone, Flynn's mother, Katie Broom, seemed more affected. She said It's my final one and knowing it now." "And he's excited about getting what he wants... They had it after the year."
The year was "pretty hard" for many of his co-workers. Flynn who was also school captain at Sydney West School.
"It was a bit strange – virtually every speech I made," he said. "It was another kind of year once COVID struck, it was never going to be the same. But everyone has shown resilience and strong promise – they help with bands."
Flynn studied four units of English for his HSC, including legal studies, business, society and culture and religion studies, and a variety of humanities subjects.
"The humanities capture most of my interests – since I was at school in my younger years the law has caught my eye," he said. He reached a grade of 93, studying law and arts in Sydney University next year and wants to pursue his interests. An ATAR of 98.90 was achieved.
54,894 eligible students have been released with ATARs that specify which university students are eligible for. 17 percent receive a rating higher than 90, about one-third receive a number higher than 80 and about half receive 70 or more. The median ATAR for this year is 70.15 - a little higher than the median ATAR of last year.
Kim Paino, General Marketing and Interaction Manager of UAC, congratulated the students on their 13th year of education and reminded them that many of them would be eligible for additional adaptation factors.
"Don't lose heart if your ATAR isn't what you'd hoped for. You can always leave your first choice as the lowest selection ranks shift annually," she said. In addition to 15,000 students, an early university offer has also been made.
