Bilal Hamze was assassinated last week in Sydney's central business district.

Bilal Hamze, the underworld boss who was shot dead in Sydney's central business district a week ago, was laid to rest at his funeral.

Bilal Hamze was laid to rest at a funeral six days after being gunned down in an execution-style murder shortly after leaving a Japanese restaurant in Sydney's central business district.

Around 100 mourners gathered in Lakemba to bid farewell to Bassam Hamzy, the cousin of Brothers 4 Life gang leader Bassam Hamzy, who is currently serving time in the Goulburn Supermax Jail for murder.

Among those in attendance was Maha Hamze, Bilal Hamze's mother, who had her home sprayed with bullets in February, one of which came dangerously close to striking a nurse caring for a patient at Auburn Hospital.

A dozen men dressed in dark, hooded sweaters, masks, and tracksuit pants carried the green coffin from the Lebanese Muslim Association up the stairwell of Lakemba Mosque for an Islamic prayer.

A group of burqa-clad women followed the procession into a separate entrance amid a 100-strong police presence spread throughout the surrounding streets.

Ahmed Elomar, the brother of slain Islamic State terrorist Mohamed Elomar, inquired to the media as he exited the gym next door in his white ute, "what was going on?"

Bilal Hamze, 34, was leaving Kid Kyoto with a group of people last Thursday night when he was shot multiple times and fell to the pavement on Bridge Street.

Witnesses described seeing a pool of blood before he was loaded into an ambulance and transported to St Vincent's Hospital, where he died from life-threatening injuries.

Detectives claim they warned Mr Hamze in the months preceding his death that his life was in danger due to a bounty on his head.

His cousin, Mejid Hamzy, was assassinated outside his Condell Park home in October, at a time when detectives were concerned about an ongoing feud with the Alameddines, a rival family.

Rifat Alameddine's Merrylands home was targeted hours before his murder, but he escaped injury.

Maha Hamze's Auburn townhouse was peppered with bullets four months later, and the family matriarch was seriously injured in a drive-by shooting at the same property in 2013.

Several shootings directed at Alameddine family members have occurred in recent months, but no one has been killed.

The ensuing feud resulted in broad-reaching orders aimed at ensuring public safety — prohibiting rival family members from visiting certain areas of Sydney.

The Serious Crime Prevention Orders also prohibit them from communicating with one another, following the February augmentation of Strike Force Raptor, the state's anti-bikie squad.

By July, 115 full-time officers will be tasked with resolving tensions between rival crime families and emerging street gangs operating throughout Sydney.

Bilal Hamze's remains will be laid to rest at Rockwood Cemetery.
