Roberto Guzman shot death Omar Sepulveda at Creston Ave. at E. 183rd St. in Fordham Heights
A Bronx father was assassinated by his cousin who was collecting a debt.
Loaning his cousin's van proved to be a fatal mistake for a Bronx father, according to the victim's father.
According to Omar Sepulveda's relatives, his cousin, Roberto Guzman, went into a frenzy after Sepulveda lent out his van. When the van was discovered to be totalled, Guzman allegedly sought payment from his cousin.
Guzman, 29, was arrested and charged with murder and criminal possession in connection with Sepulveda's fatal shooting in the Bronx on Sept. 13.
Sepulveda was shot three times in a second-floor corridor of a building on Creston Ave. near E. 183rd St. in Fordham Heights, officials say.
Omar Sepulveda Sr., Sepulveda's father, stated that Guzman went after Sepulveda's newborn son after learning of his van's wreck.
“He was attempting to murder his infant kid, but my son jumped in the path and was struck in the neck,” claimed the elder Sepulveda, 38.
Sepulveda stated that the slaying was a mystery due to the fact that his son reimbursed Guzman for the van mishap.
“My son paid him for the van,” Sepulveda explained. “He was assassinated, and he was my only son.”
Relatives stated shortly after the tragic shooting that the cousins harbored a deep-seated resentment toward one another.
“Everyone knows my son was a decent young man,” the bereaved father stated. “He'd never been in trouble before, and he'd recently given birth. His infant boy is three months old. He was trying everything possible to get his son out of this place.”
Guzman was being jailed without bail on Friday at Rikers Island. According to records, he was on parole for an attempted assault conviction at the time of his arrest.
