Seventh grade math teacher committed sexual intercourse with a teenage student, who has been charged with a felony
A high school teacher in Killen, Alabama was arrested following her conviction for reportedly having contact with a student.
AL.com reports that Ashton Alana McCluskey, a high school teacher in Lauderdale County, was arrested on Wednesday for suspected misconduct with a pupil.
Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton reported that McCluskey is facing two felony charges: one for a school employee having inappropriate intercourse with a student under the age of 17, and the other for possessing pornography on school grounds.
It was made public a few months ago that she was being investigated.
Prior to her detention, the teacher was identified on the Brooks High School website as a 7th grade math teacher.
ABC partner WAAY records that McCluskey was out of jail within a brief amount of time on Wednesday.
She paid bail of $50,000 and was released the next day.
Previously charged by a grand jury in a case prosecuted by the Alabama State Bureau of Investigations, the seventh-grade teacher was working as a teacher.
The case of the high school teacher convicted of having sex with a pupil was originally assigned to the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation because of a conflict of interest.
It is rumored that the student involved is linked to an employee of the sheriff's office.
Singleton explained, “This case was forwarded to the SBI for further investigation due to the student being a family member of one of our employees.
NBC partner WAFF has announced that the superintendent has stated that McCluskey has been put on leave since she was indicted.
The accusation, as reported by the CBS affiliate WHNT, suggests that the student was underage when a high school teacher reportedly started a sexual relationship with him.
Additional information was not readily available.
The school has refused to comment further on the case until it is finished.
The public was not immediately able to hear whether McCluskey had hired an attorney for comment.
