The insidious methods employed by an Australian gay porn website to manipulate insecure young men have been revealed by those whose videos go online forever.

Penrith Panthers star Kurt Capewell talked this week about an X-rated video featuring a sex act with a male taken under false pretences seven years ago.

The 27-year-old says the video on AllAustralianBoys.com website was from a time in his life when he was "young and naive" and chasing cash.

Capewell said he was persuaded to appear in the film with "inducements and extra money" after agreeing to be part of a photo shoot he felt was legitimate.

Capewell, who is in a long-term relationship with a woman, told teammates via text that he had "talked about doing a (adult film)" but "unknown to me it turned out they put a block across the wall."

It is known the reference is to a contraption that the young men being filmed are on one side, with a much older man hiding on the other, performing sex acts.

Comments of the footballer on feeling deceived echo the perspective of another young man who ended up on the website, who also spoke the lies, hypocrisy and coercion that made it happen.

Callum*, 30, was also fooled into appearing in a website video.

He told news.com.au what began as a fun chat with possible love interest turned out to be an intricate pit in which countless others had sunk.

"I was chatting with a Grindr guy getting along well and somewhere the conversation turned to him saying Hey, you should go to this modeling shoot,'" he said.

"I said, 'Funny, but he persisted. He was insistent. The insistence said maybe it's legit.

"He showed me a newspaper clipping that I thought was a bit low-tech, but I wasn't worried about getting harvested for my organs."

Callum and "two dozen other guys of my age, early 20s" gathered at a café in Brisbane for a man who appeared to be aged in his early 50s, asking them to model "trunks, boardies and speedos."

After a short time, only three young men remained—the rest were ordered to go home.

"If you taped the arm, you were successful. If not, see later," Callum said.

"The man gave me a card and told me to turn up at a time at a Gold Coast hotel.

"No mention of precisely what will happen. Don't know what's going on until you're in the bed."

In that high-rise flat, Callum was told "what happens, happens."

"We weren't told specifically, 'We'll get you off your clothes and have sex with another guy on tape.' But that was it."

Red flags went up, but the young Queensland man claims he didn't walk away for many reasons.

"I was chronically depressed at that point in my life. I'm desperate for cash. I clearly remember thinking, 'I'm not happy and want to abort,' but being an anxious person I didn't think I should."

He says X-rated film makers "targeted people of some age for a reason."

"That's why they'll target age and gender people," he said. "They present what you'll do in an innocent, non-harmful way. They say you'll get rent, we'll take pictures of you. From there it escalates.

"Once you've got the foot in the door, the reality of the situation becomes clearer."

For the hour, Callum was charged "between $250 and $350," which he acknowledges was a lot for someone not making much money.

A number of his friends and associates have seen the video, which is still online, some of whom bring it up.

"Someone first spoke to me about it before a lot of people. I don't know if they wanted to shame me, but they said, 'I haven't seen you since I saw you in that video.
