Javier Oates shooting death Ethan Holder nyc, suavve porter Flatlands
A teen who is being charged with killing a NYC paraprofessional is said to have admitted to shooting.
At his arraignment on Thursday, prosecutors said that the teenager who is accused of killing a Brooklyn school worker in broad daylight this week admitted to firing three shots at the victim.
Javier Oates, who is 19, was ordered to be held without bail after Ethan Holder, who was also 19, was shot and killed outside of PS 203 in Flatlands on Tuesday. Holder was a substitute teacher.
Prosecutors in Brooklyn Criminal Court said that at about 2:50 p.m., Oates was seen on surveillance footage firing three shots at Holder at the corner of Avenue M and Utica Avenue.
The person was hit in the head and back, and on Wednesday, it was said that they had died.
Assistant District Attorney Aaron Gauthier said in court that Oates told police he had shot Holder and told them "where the gun could be found."
Gauthier also said that police found a.380-caliber gun, two empty shell casings, and a spent bullet at the scene.
Sources said that the alleged gunman was going after Holder because of some kind of beef, but it wasn't clear what it was about.
Oates showed up in court without a mask, with messy hair and an arm in a sling. The suspect, who was wearing an olive green sweat suit, turned for a moment to kiss his family in court.
"There is no doubt that you are charged with a serious crime," Judge Simiyon Haniff told Oates. "A young boy is dead, and it is said that you killed him. So you're sent back."
The public defender for Oates asked the judge to let him out on bail, but the judge agreed with the prosecutors who wanted him to stay in jail.
Before bailiffs led Oates out of the courtroom, the judge wished the accused "good luck."
As they left the arraignment, Oates' family members who were there wouldn't say anything, and one of them cursed at a reporter. Another man told the reporters outside the courthouse that they were "sick."
