Irene Miller, a 50-year-old photographer from Kissimmee, Florida, was arrested on October 23, 2026, after allegedly leaving her four children home without overnight adult supervision while traveling to Las Vegas for work. The situation came to authorities' attention when her youngest son suffered a head injury involving a dumbbell.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, Miller faces four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. Deputies arrested her at Orlando International Airport shortly after she returned from her five-day trip.
Injured 9-Year-Old Prompts 911 Call
On October 21, shortly after 8:30 p.m., one of Miller's children called 911 to report that a dumbbell had fallen on her 9-year-old brother's head at their home on Parkway Boulevard in Kissimmee.
Emergency responders arrived and discovered four siblings, ages 9, 11, 12, and 14, inside the residence without an adult present.
The injured boy was transported to AdventHealth Celebration, where he received medical treatment before being discharged. Authorities reported that the other three children were in good health.
Mother Says Babysitter Checked on Children During Work Trip
Investigators contacted Miller by telephone and learned that she had traveled to Las Vegas on October 18 for work, with plans to return to Florida on October 23.
Miller reportedly told deputies she had arranged for a babysitter from Tampa to visit the children each morning, help them prepare for school, and check on them again after school.
However, the babysitter was not required to stay overnight, leaving the four children without continuous adult supervision, according to investigators.
Authorities contacted the children's father, who picked up all four siblings and took them to his residence.
Bodycam Video Shows Irene Miller Arrested at Florida Airport
On Friday, October 23, detectives met Miller as she exited her returning flight at Orlando International Airport.
Body camera footage released by the sheriff's office shows officers approaching Miller on the jet bridge, escorting her through the airport, and placing her in handcuffs.
She was subsequently booked into the Orange County Jail on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm.
Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon said his department would investigate allegations involving children who were not properly supervised or cared for and pursue charges when warranted.
What Charges Does Irene Miller Face?
Miller faces four child neglect counts, one for each child allegedly left without adequate supervision.
Florida law recognizes child neglect when a caregiver fails to provide necessary care or supervision in circumstances that endanger a child's physical or mental health.
The charges filed against Miller do not allege great bodily harm, although her 9-year-old son required hospital treatment after the dumbbell incident.
According to an October 26 report from Law & Crime, Miller had posted bond following her arrest. Her next court date was not immediately available.
As of October 27, 2026, no conviction or final court ruling in the case has been reported. The allegations remain subject to the legal process, and Miller is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
