Family of Porn Star Emily Willis Sues Rehab Center Over Alleged Negligence Leading to Her Vegetative State
The family of adult film actress Emily Willis, whose legal name is Litzy Lara Banuelos, has filed a lawsuit against Summit Malibu and its parent company, Malibu Lighthouse Treatment Centers, following a medical emergency that left the 26-year-old with permanent brain damage. The suit alleges adult abuse, negligence, and unlawful business practices at the facility, where Willis was undergoing treatment for ketamine addiction.
According to court documents, Willis was admitted to the luxury rehab center in Malibu, California, to address a severe addiction to ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic. Her family claims she had been consuming 5 to 6 grams of the drug daily prior to entering treatment. During her stay in February 2023, she was found unconscious under circumstances the lawsuit describes as stemming from inadequate care. The incident allegedly resulted in an anoxic brain injury, leaving her in a vegetative state.
The lawsuit accuses Summit Malibu and Malibu Lighthouse of failing to provide proper medical supervision, violating state licensing requirements, and engaging in fraudulent practices by marketing unlicensed services. It further claims staff did not follow protocols to ensure patient safety, contributing to the preventable tragedy.
“This case is about gross negligence and the facility’s failure to protect a vulnerable patient entrusted to their care,” the family’s attorneys stated. They are seeking damages for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and loss of earnings, alongside calls for stricter oversight of rehabilitation centers.
Willis, a prominent figure in the adult entertainment industry with over 200 film credits, had publicly struggled with substance use. Her family emphasized her decision to seek help as a step toward recovery, now overshadowed by the alleged malpractice.
Representatives for Summit Malibu and Malibu Lighthouse Treatment Centers have not yet publicly responded to the allegations. The case has reignited debates over accountability in the addiction treatment industry, particularly in high-profile facilities catering to affluent clients.
As the legal proceedings unfold, Willis remains under 24-hour medical care, with her family advocating for justice and systemic reforms to prevent similar incidents.
