Caboolture Shooting: Brothers Codye Thomson and Kaine Thomson-Gleeson Charged with Alleged Murder of Chloe Jade Mason
Two brothers, Codye Thomson (29) and Kaine Thomson-Gleeson (32), have been charged in connection with the alleged murder of 23-year-old Chloe Jade Mason, who was fatally shot in Caboolture last month. The tragic incident, which has shocked the local community, occurred in the early hours of December 22, 2024, when Ms. Mason was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound on Railway Parade. She was declared dead at the scene.
The Incident and Police Investigation
Authorities allege that Ms. Mason was chased by the two brothers, who then assaulted and shot her. Investigators believe the attack was targeted, as all parties involved were known to each other. A rifle recovered from the scene is currently undergoing forensic testing to determine whether it was used in the crime.
Initially, the brothers were questioned as witnesses and released due to insufficient evidence. However, after further investigation and public appeals for information, arrest warrants were issued for them on January 3, 2025.
Cross-Border Search and Arrest
Following the shooting, the brothers are believed to have fled Queensland in a white Holden Commodore wagon, triggering a cross-border manhunt. Police traced their movements to northern New South Wales, where they were thought to be hiding in remote areas. The vehicle was last spotted on December 30 in Chinderah, NSW.
The search concluded on January 6, 2025, when the brothers were arrested without incident in Logan, south of Brisbane. They were each charged with murder and appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court the following day.
Court Proceedings and Defense Claims
During their court appearance, the brothers’ lawyers requested adjournments, and bail was denied due to the seriousness of the charges. Kaine Thomson-Gleeson’s lawyer, Ken Mackenzie, argued that Ms. Mason had arrived at the brothers’ property armed with a rifle and that his client acted in self-defense to protect his family and home.
However, police maintain that the brothers were the aggressors, claiming they chased and shot Ms. Mason during the altercation.
Community and Family Reactions
Chloe Jade Mason’s family expressed relief at the arrests but emphasized that her loss cannot be undone. Her sister, Dani Mason, described Chloe as “kind, funny, and one of a kind,” underscoring her strong ties to the community and the deep grief felt by her loved ones.
Police also thanked the public for their crucial assistance in the investigation, which included tips that led to the issuance of the arrest warrants.
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation is ongoing, with forensic tests on the recovered rifle and additional witness statements still being analyzed. The brothers are scheduled to return to court later this month.
The tragic death of Chloe Jade Mason has had a profound impact on the Caboolture community, where many are calling for justice as the legal process continues.
