Bus Ride to Murder: Ashley White and Stranger Kill Boyfriend Over Job Doubt
A Colorado woman turned a routine bus trip into a deadly conspiracy, enlisting a total stranger to help murder her boyfriend—all because he questioned her ability to get a job, prosecutors revealed.
Ashley White, 29, was convicted of second-degree murder for orchestrating the 2020 killing of her 28-year-old boyfriend, Cody DeLisa. What began as a tense exchange over her job prospects quickly escalated into a brutal act of violence.
According to prosecutors, the couple’s already volatile relationship took a fatal turn on August 13, 2020. White had attended a job interview in Denver and later messaged DeLisa about it. When he expressed doubt about her chances, it set off a deadly chain of events.
Still on the bus, White struck up a conversation with a man who introduced himself as Scott. As they talked, he asked if she was in a relationship and whether her partner had ever assaulted her. White allegedly confirmed it, prompting Scott to declare that they should kill DeLisa.
When they arrived at White’s home, Scott deceived DeLisa by posing as her brother from Texas. Soon after, DeLisa was shot twice in the head. His body was discovered the next day during a welfare check.
Investigators later uncovered disturbing diary entries in which White expressed deep resentment toward DeLisa. Even more chilling, they found evidence that she had previously attempted to drown and set fire to his cat, signaling her capacity for violence.
Following the murder, White and Scott stole DeLisa’s wallet before fleeing.
The case took an unexpected turn three years later when a woman came forward, revealing that her boyfriend, Michael Stratton, had confessed to the crime. His account matched details from White’s statements.
However, Stratton was already serving time for an unrelated murder and was deemed unfit to stand trial.
Calling it a senseless and cold-blooded execution, District Attorney Brian Mason emphasized that White played a critical role in DeLisa’s death and would now face severe consequences.
White’s crime echoed the premise of Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train—though far more reckless and unplanned. She is set to be sentenced on April 4.
