Alberta man hits officer with truck, RCMP arrested a man in Grande Prairie
Four charges have been laid against a Grande Prairie man, including assault on a police officer.
After a May 6 incident, a 46-year-old Grande Prairie man faces four charges, including assaulting a police officer.
Around 5:14 p.m., RCMP reported that an officer pulled over a man in a pickup truck for stunting on a highway near 98 Street and 101 Avenue in Grande Prairie.
According to the RCMP, the man was pulled over again a few blocks later for stunting.
According to RCMP, after the officer ticketed the driver at the second stop, he drove away, striking the officer with his pickup truck. The officer pursued the truck, pulled it over for the third time, and dispatched additional officers.
According to RCMP, the driver was arrested and taken into custody for assaulting an officer. RCMP discovered bear spray in the truck during their investigation.
The driver faces four charges:
- Assault
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose to the public
- Stunting on two counts under the Traffic Safety Act
He has since been released and is scheduled to appear in court on July 21.
In videos posted to YouTube by the RCMP, a man can be seen yelling obscenities at someone he refers to as an officer.
In the video, a man is seen on the phone with an RCMP officer, claiming he was pulled over for yelling on the phone and then for giving the officer the middle finger.
Later in the video, an officer can be seen breaking the truck's window in order to arrest the driver. According to the woman filming the video, the officer has a cut on his hand.
The RCMP stated that no additional information can be released because the case is still pending in the courts.
